“Marketing that Works” will be a day-long course that will provide participants with an array of solutions to help them become even more successful in their consulting careers. The course will be presented in two parts: 1) The morning session will focus on the strategies, frameworks, and best practices of marketing and why marketing is so critical to businesses, especially those that need support to accelerate their momentum among current and prospective clients. This session will not dwell on “theory,” but on strategic approaches which will help consultants achieve their business goals. 2) The afternoon session will apply the solutions discussed in the morning to specific tactical, in-market challenges faced by consultants in general, and forestry consultants in particular. This session will use real-world examples from ACF and elsewhere to drive home proven approaches for member consultants and their businesses. By the end of the day, participants will come away with 1) contemporary marketing frameworks and tools; 2) useful examples of best/worst practices in marketing and consulting; and 3) a marketing roadmap that they can begin implementing on their next day in the office. Breakfast and lunch will be included for those who attend the full day.

Since 1941, the American Tree Farm System® (ATFS) has educated and recognized the commitment of US family forest owners to protect wildlife habitat and watersheds, to conserve soil, and to provide recreation for their communities while producing wood. Appropriate primarily for small landowners, the ATFS Standards of Sustainability require that landowners develop a management plan based on strict environmental standards and implement the plan in a manner to protect the future productivity of the forest. Inspecting foresters provide the on-the-ground assurance that is essential for the integrity of the program by assessing that the standards are being met and recommending certification as appropriate. This class is free of charge, but you must register beforehand.

The timber industry has all but left the Tahoe Basin due to environmental pressures to "Keep Tahoe Blue" and development pressures on “San Francisco and the World’s weekend playground.” But the trees continue to grow and foresters are still busy addressing classic wildland urban interface challenges amid high-value natural and urban assets-at-risk. The 2017 ACF Field Tour will cut across industries, ownerships, and objectives to showcase successful active forest management strategies within this context. The tour will also feature scenic vistas of the lake, including a lake-side lunch at iconic Sand Harbor, as well as a stop at an ancient sugar pine stand facing dramatic mortality. Join us as we meet with forestland managers from the local electrical utility, an ACF-member business, the US Forest Service, a local fire protection district, and University of California researchers to explore the innovative forestry solutions being applied to sustainably maintain the quality of human life and environmental values on the shores of the Jewel of the Sierra. Andrea Eggleton, ACF is the field tour chairman.
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
8:00 AM
After the field tour, come down to the Lakeside Ballroom to try your hand at some “high stakes” gaming with blackjack, poker and roulette. Chips are provided with your registration. (Kids are welcome but may not gamble.) The traditional silent auction remains a part of the conference so be thinking now of what you can donate to support this worthy cause! Bid on a chainsaw donated by Stihl (MS 250 chainsaw, value: $350) and pick it up from your local Stihl dealer. Your bid on Chris Will’s (Mr. Bourbon) donation of Van Winkle Special Reserve 12-year-old Bourbon (value: $400-$650) will actually be a bid for the opportunity to buy it at a hugely discounted price ($200). So come on out, prospectors, and remember, what happens in Tahoe stays in Tahoe!
